What’s for breakfast-more protein and fat

In keeping with my philosophy of eating protein and fat with every meal, I’ve supplemented my morning oatmeal with a soy protein shake beefed up with coconut cream and frozen banana.

See https://pws.Shaklee.com/deidre-lines/ for how to get yummy Pumpkin Spice soy protein. I like the Sprouts brand of coconut cream, over 2/3 of can is solid.

Oatmeal with blueberries, nuts and seeds plus creamy protein shake.

Protein and Fat

When my mother was ill, the doctor said to make sure she was getting enough protein and fat. Not vitamins and minerals, not fluids, not the usual things we focus on to be healthy. For this page, I’ve been exploring why protein and fats are important elements of our diet and what are the best ways to consume.

My favorite fat is an avocado. Not only is it delicious smashed on toast, sliced into a salad, blended in a smoothee, it’s packed with an amazing array of nutrients. In addition to Vitamin E, C and B, avocado has magnesium, potassium, beta carotene, lutein and zeaxanthin which protect your eyes and defend again macular degeneration. Plus omega 3 fatty acids and beta-sitosterol which is important for maintaining healthy cholesterol.

Does CBD cause vertigo?

It was a beautiful day for a stroll around downtown Gulfport. We stopped at our favorite coffee shop, Sumitra. We had a fond memory of a sunflower butter filled treat, a CBD laced vegan version of a Reese cup and cappuccino that we enjoyed the last time we visited. It was chilly then so we opted for one of the cozy spots inside where young couples huddled in cushioned corners. This time we snagged one of the umbrella tables on the sidewalk and reveled in the warm sun of a Florida winter. We ordered the French press coffee to share and an avocado cacao tart. It has a creamy texture and a nutty crunch, almost delicious if you chew it well. As we walked back on the uneven sidewalk toward where we parked in front of the Peninsula Hotel, Nancy felt a little dizzy. She tends to be a little off balance on a good day, so we didn’t think much of it. By bedtime, she had a full on case of vertigo. We reviewed the day and wondered if the CBD was a factor? Will be interested in your experience of CBD edibles, not to be confused with THC edibles; we leave those alone.

What’s for dinner-Leftover grouper fish spread

What do you do with a 3 oz. portion of leftover grouper? I checked a few food sites and the advice was to start with a cream base equal to the quantity of fish. I combined mayonnaise with cream cheese and added some lemon juice and zest. I chopped what little bit of green onion I had on hand with Italian parsley and a stalk of celery. You might like some sweet onion as well. I rummaged through our condiments and decided on Dijon mustard with dill, Worcestershire sauce and a dangerous looking hot sauce. I served with vegetable soup and gluten free crackers. A sliced tomato provided the requisite garden item; always include something from the earth. The result was pretty good; the only problem with adding to a leftover is now we still have leftover fish!

Carrot cake oatmeal for Breakfast

We should be bright eyed and bushy tailed today. With carotene filled carrots and brain boosting walnuts, this oatmeal tastes like carrot cake. Sweetened with honey and cinnamon, a splash of vanilla and a dollop of coconut cream, this breakfast provides the protein, fiber and fat to fuel you through a busy morning . I think next time I’ll add shredded coconut and some hemp seeds.

What’s for dinner-February 3, 2021

Our antidote for our overindulgence with bread today, a quick and easy root vegetable soup. Simmer chopped carrots, turnips and celery in a chicken broth base, when tender add green onions and bok choy, season with black pepper and miso paste. We like lots of black pepper, a well known antioxidant and anti inflammatory. Some interesting studies report the compound piperine has shown promise in animal studies to improve blood sugar regulation and brain function.

Farmer breakfast-February 3, 2021

If you plan to work like a farmer you get to eat like a farmer. I have a physical work day today, so am loading up on protein and fat: soy powder shake with bananas, strawberries, beet powder and coconut cream. Dave’s raisin bread French toast with one slice of bacon (two halves). The small amount of saturated fat in the butter and bacon are more than offset by the fruit and good fat in the coconut cream. The strawberries and beet powder also help to keep blood pressure low. As always, include some thing in every meal that was grown in the earth, fresh and uncooked.
